Got time to foster? Lots of people rule themselves out of fostering because they think they need to foster full-time or they can't afford/don't want to give up their day job. But there is an alternative, short break foster care.
Short break carers support our exisiting foster carers, Kinship carers, families or adopters by offering short break care either for a few days during the week or for 1 or more weekends a month. It's a great way to start your fostering career.
You still go through the same assessment, training and receive the same support as our main stream foster carers but you don't have thelong-term commitment.
Typical breaks could be for a few days during the week, 1 weekend a month, a few nights a month or a few days and weeks just in the school holidays.
No experience is necessary, you do need to be over 21 and have a spare bedroom.
If you then go on to decide to foster full time we would only need to change your approval, not re-do your fostering assessment.
