Emergency Duty Service Fostering

Emergency (EDS) Foster Carers care for babies and children at a time of crisis.

To be an EDS care you need to have experience of working with or looking after vulnerable young people as you will be caring for any child aged 0-18 years who comes into care at a time of crisis outside of normal office hours.

Carers can also be asked to support babies who need a safe adult to support them whilst they are in hospital.

Requirements

Emergency fostering takes place out of normal working hours and lasts for up to 3 working days. During this time work will be undertaken with the child’s family to support them and to ensure that the child can be kept safe when they leave your care and return home.

As an Emergency Foster Carer you will need to be available 24/7 Monday to Sunday whilst on rota to care for any baby or child in need, so this type of fostering is not recommended if you have younger children in your household.

You need to be committed to working on a 2 week on 1 week off rota, there is scope to do this on a part time basis if this fits better with your lifestyle.

Support

You will have access to 24 hr support and will receive a comprehensive package of training from the Fostering and Emergency Duty service.

Emergency Foster Carers will attend monthly support groups and receive regular support visits from their social worker.

Fees

Following approval you will receive a weekly availability fee of £593.29 per week.
